PlanH Webinar: A path to resilience: How communities can strengthen child and youth mental well-being

PlanH HPP Webinar Series: Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 10:30-11:30 am

Join our second 2024 PlanH HPP webinar hosted by Connie Allsopp, PlanH Delivery Lead, to dig deeper into the four protective factors – Play, Safety, Participation and Social Connection and Belonging – that strengthen the mental well-being of children and youth in BC communities. We will also feature details of the new resource guide created in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).

Our first speaker, Lianne Carley, a Senior Policy Strategist at VCH, will discuss the critical role local governments play in promoting the mental well-being of children and youth through policy decisions ranging from neighbourhood design to transportation networks, to mentorships and employment opportunities.

Next, we will feature two case studies from our 2022 and 2023 PlanH BC Grant Communities. Teniola Okun, The City of Mission Grant Community and Fraser Health will share how they are using strategies to create opportunities for youth to take a key role in providing feedback and insights to their local government on policies and practices related to children and youth. The second case study features Jenna Noppen and her son from Semá:th Nation Youth Project in Sumas First Nation area.
