Golden’s Age-friendly Community Plan for 2025

The plan for Golden and Columbia Shuswap Regional District Area A focuses on creating an inclusive, accessible, and supportive environment for residents of all ages, with a special emphasis on older adults. Guided by the World Health Organization’s age-friendly framework, it identifies key priorities and opportunities across nine community life domains.
The plan promotes health, well-being and participation for seniors while strengthening the social and physical fabric of the community. It recognizes the vital role of older adults in the community’s identity and stresses the importance of services that address the unique challenges of rural living. The 2025 update revisits the 2014 plan to assess progress, identify gaps, and realign goals based on current needs and community feedback. Key goals include enhancing support coordination, increasing awareness and use of services, fostering collaboration among organizations, securing resources for future needs, improving quality of life for those aged 55+, and boosting older adults’ involvement in community planning.
