The City of Victoria Youth Council’s Garden Project invites all youth in Victoria to join us in cultivating youth space and building capacity for food security. Our vision for the Garden Project is to create a free and accessible learning space for youth to deepen their understanding of local food security issues and provide opportunities to grow food with their community.

Drop-in Workshops

Food Justice 101 – March 24, 6pm-9pm
Register here.

Learn about nutrition, local food policy, culturally appropriate food practices, and food access issues through dialogue, art, and collaborative learning. This workshop will be hosted at The Dock 300 – 722 Cormorant St. and dinner will be provided.

design

Garden Design – March 25, 12pm-4pm
Register here.

Get hands-on experience in garden design. Explore seed starting, hugelkultur, and direct seeding at the Yates St. Community Garden. This workshop will run rain or shine and take place outside. Participants are asked to dress with weather conditions in mind.

Cultivation – April 29, 4pm-6:30pm

Introduction to soil building and mushroom cultivation. Participants will be invited to bring their seed starts to plant them in the garden. This workshop will run rain or shine and take place outside. Participants are asked to dress with weather conditions in mind.

Pollinators – June 10, 4pm-6:30pm
Register here.

Discover the role of native pollinators. Make bumblebee nests and learn how to plant with pollinators in mind. This workshop will run rain or shine and take place outside. Participants are asked to dress with weather conditions in mind.
